When standard isn’t enough
Signs a bariatric bed is the right call.
- The patient needs more width to turn, shift, or sleep comfortably
- Repositioning them in a standard bed is a strain — or unsafe — for one caregiver
- A standard frame feels unsteady or near its limit
- The care team has recommended a heavy-duty frame
If you are not sure, call and describe the patient. Matching the bed to the person is the whole point — it is what the call is for.

Before delivery
The doorway check.
Bariatric equipment is wider than standard, so the path into the room matters: front door, hallway turns, elevator, and the bedroom door. We walk through those measurements with you on the call before delivery day — and every rental is inspected, cleaned, and sanitized before it goes out.
Insurance
Coverage, verified first.
Medicare, New York Medicaid, and managed care plans may cover a heavy-duty hospital bed when plan criteria and medical-necessity requirements are met. A valid prescription is required to bill insurance. We verify your exact benefits before delivery — see the full plan roster on our insurance page. If insurance does not cover it, month-to-month rental is the fallback.
How it works.
- Call (516) 623-9500. Describe the patient; we match the frame and check the doorway measurements.
- We verify your benefits. Coverage and paperwork are confirmed before delivery.
- We deliver and set up. The bed is assembled in the room, and we show the patient and family how everything works.

What is a bariatric hospital bed?
A bariatric hospital bed is a heavy-duty bed with a reinforced frame and a wider sleep surface than a standard hospital bed (about 36 inches wide). It is built for patients who need more room and more support, and for caregivers who need to reposition them safely.
How do I know if we need a bariatric bed?
If a standard bed feels too narrow, the patient has trouble turning or getting comfortable, or repositioning them is a strain for one caregiver, a bariatric bed is usually the right call. Describe the patient on the call and we will match the frame to them.
Will a bariatric bed fit through our door?
Bariatric beds are wider than standard beds, so doorways, hall turns, and elevators matter. We go over the measurements with you on the call before delivery, so there are no surprises at the door.
Does insurance cover bariatric hospital bed rentals?
Medicare, New York Medicaid, and managed care plans may cover a heavy-duty bed when plan criteria and medical-necessity requirements are met, and a valid prescription is required to bill insurance. We verify coverage before delivery. If insurance does not cover it, month-to-month rental is available.
Do you rent heavy-duty wheelchairs too?
Yes. We rent heavy-duty wheelchairs and power chairs alongside bariatric beds, and we can add a trapeze bar, an overbed table, or a patient lift to the same delivery.
